flydubai has announced the launch of dedicated freighter operations, starting 1 October 2026, in what the carrier describes as a milestone in its diversification strategy.
According to the Dubai Media Office, the airline will add three Boeing 737-800 freighters through a wet-lease agreement with SolitAir, delivering 23,000 kg of additional payload per flight alongside existing belly-hold capacity on passenger services.
The freighters will operate out of Dubai World Central (Al Maktoum International), positioning the capacity for regional trade lanes where speed matters more than volume: e-commerce parcels, pharmaceuticals, perishables and spare parts.
Trade press reporting adds that flydubai is also evaluating passenger-to-freighter conversions of its own 737-800s from 2029 onwards, which would move cargo from a leased-in service to owned capacity.
For shippers in the UAE the immediate effect is more scheduled main-deck capacity on short and medium-haul routes from Dubai, in a market where belly-hold space has been tight during peak retail seasons.
